And on the 7th Day

And on the 7th Day | Blog post by Joey Oddessa

And on the 7th day after the fight will Manny Pacquiao and his camp have any more excuses? Lets hope not.

It takes away from Floyd Mayweather’s win. I’m not a Manny fan but expected better from him in defeat. I don’t care for a rematch.

Especially after surgery. There will just be another excuse. ExcusePack vs MoneyMay. No thanks.

Now we can move on.

2004 Athens Olympics Silver Medalist Amir Khan makes sense and is a good candidate if he can fit it in with Ramadan. It can turn into a global affair. It’s time to turn the page on the negatives but not without a mention of Jon Jones. Like George St. Pierre he’s inactive now out of my top 15 fighter pound for pound rankings.

Big deal. Rankings won’t get you a happy meal at McDonalds without the currency. Even Reebok and the UFC figured that out.

Popularity contests driven by five cents a word writers and labels. As for Reebok. Be happy you’re making money people.

It’s 2015. Lesson. Get an education for a backup plan. You can’t fight forever. Next.

We can stop rear view mirroring it. Boxing’s not dead. Get it out of your head.

Canelo and Kirkland lace up Saturday. Canelo won’t lose a decision if it hits the cards. Next.

The real and the real good. The winner of Dan Cormier and Anthony Johnson deserves to be the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight Champion. No interim titles. This is the real. With Jones on vacation and hopefully not in a cell the winner is deserving of the title. A good choice by the UFC. Irony is both have had hiccups making weight in the past. Don’t let their be any this go around please.

The UFC goes back to in Australia this week and we have the return of sentimental favorite "The Super Samoan" Mark Hunt. How can you not cheer for this guy. You can bet the Samoan isn’t going to complain about a torn rotator cuff or anything else when the chips all fall. He gives as honest a fight as one can given his limited ground game and just over 52% win record. Liars figure and figures lie. Which brings me to stats.

You can get numbers to justify anything but maybe the quality of this match up. It’s actually more than legit.

On paper, against the 85% win percentage Stipe, one would think Hunt has absolutely no shot. Like an ESPN boxing under card local match up but Hunt’s no slouch. And no excuse maker. As for the rest of the card, it’s competitive.

I love there’s more women’s bouts on the card. I love women’s Mixed Martial Arts. I believe post 2015 and 2016 women’s MMA is going to blow up big. Write that down. If there was a way to invest in something that may have ‘value’ as many call it, it’s the future of women’s MMA. I been doing this long enough to know winners. My life revolves around winning and losing.

And In wake of the Kentucky Derby I’ll close with an old saying. "Better ride on ass that carries me, than on a horse that throws me."

You figure it out. 48-0.
