Who is in Edgar’s Way for a Shot at the Title

MMA Quotes for UFC Fight Night 57 by Joey Oddessa
The UFC Fight Night 57 posted very interesting results. The ex-lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, a native from New Jersey ended the winning streak of Cub Swanson. On Saturday, the Toms River native got to position two in the featherweight category.

Cub Swanson (21-6) was submitted by Edgar (17-4-1) at the 4:56 mark of the fifth round. Only four seconds were left on the clock in the five round main event when Edgar (18-4-1 MMA, 12-4-1 UFC) forced Cub (21-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC) to tap to a rear-naked choke to secure the latest finish in promotion history.
Swanson was promised by Dana White for a title shot if he won, something that Edgar didn’t forget about after his victory.

“(UFC President) Dana (White), you said you’d be watching – I hope you like what you see,” Edgar told the camera after his submission win at the 4:56 mark of the fifth. “I’m coming for that belt. You don’t give it to me right away, I’m coming for it.

After Edgar fell to Aldo back in 2013, he has won three bouts in a row; however, if there is anyone who can stand in his way, it is Conor McGregor. For this to happen, McGregor has to defeat Denis Siver. We all know that mixed martial arts can be very unpredictable; so the idea of McGregor beating Dennis is not farfetched. The 26 year old McGregor is considered one of UFC’s fastest rising stars, if he plays his cards right, he could get a wild card to face Aldo over Edgar.

The prelims of the UFC Fight Night 57 offered great action: Jared Rosholt was knocked down by Oleksiv Oliynyk on the 3:22 mark of the first round in their heavy weight bout. Oleksiv’s vicious left hook left Jared for the dead, quickly terminating the fight. In other fights, Dustin Ortiz lost his flyweight bout to Joseph Benavidez in a unanimous decision. Likewise, Brad Pickett lost in a split decision to Chico Camus.

» UFC Fight Night 57: Edgar’s Shot for the Title
“After watching Franke Edgar totally dominate Cub Swanson in route to a finish, It’s fair to say if Conor McGregor has any sense he doesn’t want any part of Edgar on the road to a title shot.”

“I was most surprised at Heavyweight betting favorite Jared Rosholt getting knocked out for the second time in his career. Rosholt took down the majority of the parlays on the card with him as he was considered to be ‘money’ in the matchup. The 37 year old Oliynyk only had four KO wins in his 15 year 60 fight career. No one saw that coming including Jared.”

“If Rosholt didn’t crush hopes of the chalk parlays, Roufus gym’s underdog Chico Camus, down in weight, put all hopes to rest with parlay buster on the main card shortly after his team mate Dustin Ortiz lost to the biggest favorite on the card Joseph Benavidez.”
