Slice Makes Short Work Of Shamrock In Bellator Slugfest

Slice Makes Short Work Of Shamrock In Bellator Slugfest | Blog post by Joey Oddessa

Say what you want about Bellator, but they know how to make headlines. Bellator 138 made noise over the weekend with a couple of guys who used to be at the top of many MMA fighter rankings. It was headlined by a heavyweight tilt between Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock in a match that some hardcore MMA fans weren’t happy about, but the two old guys put on a show in the short time they were in the ring.

Shamrock (28-16-2) did what was expected of him, which was to take Slice (5-2) down to the mat and after a couple of attempts, the 51-year-old succeeded and even managed to almost get a rear-naked choke in as he took Slice’s back. However, he failed to lock it in and Slice got back up to his feet. When he did, the former internet sensation simply started throwing bombs and connecting on Shamrock, who did his best to try and avoid them, but he was caught with one right hand and referee “Big” John McCarthy jumped in before Slice could do any more damage.

It was probably the end of the road for Shamrock, who hadn’t fought in five years heading into this fight, but he has lost 11 of his last 15 fights and it would be difficult to see any fight he goes into as a money grab. As for Slice, he should get another chance to fight under the Bellator banner, but it’ll be interesting to see how he fares against an actual contender. That being said, he is a name draw, so Slice will definitely get another shot.

These guys are no longer at the top of the MMA fighter rankings anymore but they still put on an entertaining bout.
