The 3 Best Fighters In The UFC Right Now
It’s been an interesting stretch in the UFC with the supposed pound-for-pound king of the UFC, Jon Jones, enduring some criminal and drug turmoil and subsequently being stripped of the title. That means he can’t top our list of the best MMA fighter rankings right now. While he takes a break to recover, here is our list of the three best fighters in the UFC right now.
Jose Aldo
The featherweight champion is 25-1 in his career (and his lone loss came at lightweight in November 2005), and he won the WEC title in November 2009, which got promoted to the UFC when they bought WEC. Aldo has been challenged and has another tough customer coming for him in Conor McGregor next month, but the Brazilian always comes through in the clutch and with Jon Jones suspended, Aldo is the UFC’s pound-for-pound king.
Demetrious Johnson
Sure, Johnson fights at 125 pounds and the flyweights don’t move the needle like the bigger weight classes, but he has dominated this division from its inception, winning the belt in September 2012 and furthermore, he has barely looked like he was in trouble. He can decision you, knock you out or submit you, and his conditioning is off the charts. It will take a strong challenger to take the belt from “Mighty Mouse”, who just fought in April, so look for him later in 2015.
Chris Weidman
The 185-pound champion has been more impressive each time out after taking the belt from the legendary Anderson Silva in July 2013, then he was winning the rematch before Silva broke his leg. He then held off former 205-pound champion Lyoto Machida before dominating Vitor Belfort in May, and while he is probably best on the mat with wrestling and jiu-jitsu, Weidman is a very good striker now and that makes him more dangerous. Like Johnson, Weidman just defended his title, so he probably won’t fight until much later this year. That’s why he’s third on our list of MMA fighter rankings.
